Sand Filter Backwashing

Clean the sand filter by reversing the flow of water.

No tools necassary.

Technique
  • Turn off the Pool Pump: Ensure the pump is off before starting.
  • Set to ‘Backwash’: Rotate the valve clockwise to the ‘Backwash’ position.
  • Run the Pump: Turn on the pump and run until the water in the sight glass is clear.
  • Turn off the pump.
  • Rinse: Set the valve to ‘Rinse’ and run the pump for about 30 seconds, then turn off the pump and switch back to ‘Filter.’
Frequency

At least once a week.

Cartridge Filter Cleaning

Clean or replace the filter cartridge.

Equipment Needed

Socket and ratchet to remove the clamp bolt around the filter, cartridge filter cleaner solution

Technique
  • Turn off Pump and Close Valves: Ensure the system is off.
  • Remove the Cartridges: Open the filter tank and carefully remove the cartridges.
  • Clean the Cartridges: Rinse with a hose, and if heavily soiled, soak in a filter cleaner solution, then rinse again.
  • Reinstall the Cartridges: Place the cleaned or new cartridges back in the filter tank.
Frequency

At the end of your pool season or as indicated by your pressure guage. If psi is above 25 on your normal filtering rpm speed then you most likely need to clean your filter.
